Neoen Wins 20-Year Contracts for Two Ontario Solar Farms Including the Province's Largest

The 50–50 partnerships with First Nations tie long-term clean power to local ownership.

Overview

  • Ontario's grid operator, the IESO, awarded Neoen two 20-year contracts that cover all output from solar farms totaling 318 MWp/250 MWac.
  • The larger Dunns Valley site near Sault Ste. Marie will be 253 MWp/200 MWac and is set to become the province's largest solar farm.
  • Garden River First Nation will co-own the Dunns Valley project in a 50% equity partnership, with construction planned for 2028 and operations targeted for 2030.
  • The Paradis Bay project near Temiskaming Shores will be 65 MWp/50 MWac, co-owned 50% by Matachewan First Nation, with a 2028 build start and a 2029 in-service date.
  • Neoen expects the two sites to generate about 475 GWh a year, enough for more than 50,000 homes, as it expands a Canadian portfolio that includes solar in Alberta and Saskatchewan and a planned 400 MW battery in Ontario.
