Nebraska, Penn State, Florida and SMU to Play $1 Million Volleyball Showcase at AT&T Stadium on Aug. 27

Organizers are finalizing a prime-time network deal for a single-night, TV-first format.

Overview

  • Event backers announced Tuesday that the inaugural Spikes Under the Lights will bring Nebraska, Penn State, Florida and SMU to AT&T Stadium on Aug. 27 with a $1 million purse and broadcast details to be revealed later.
  • The made-for-TV showcase will feature two semifinals and a championship final, with every match played as best-of-three sets to fit a three-hour window.
  • A Full Day Productions spokeswoman said each team will receive a $200,000 appearance fee, with another $200,000 in prize money to be awarded, and each school will decide how to distribute funds to players, which reporting indicates will be via NIL payments.
  • Tickets move to a general on-sale on May 8 after presales opened through the event site, giving fans a chance to see top programs in one night.
  • The first volleyball event of its kind at the Dallas Cowboys’ NFL stadium is produced by Full Day Productions and GSE Worldwide and follows surging interest in the sport, including Nebraska’s 92,003-fan outdoor match in 2023.
