Nearly 100,000 Apply for 2,640 MHADA Mumbai Homes as EMD Deadline Ends

Surging demand sharply narrows chances for buyers, triggering MHADA’s scheduled verification steps before a later computerised draw.

Overview

  • MHADA recorded 97,613 applications for the 2,640 Mumbai tenements after the application window closed, creating roughly 37 applicants for each flat by the end of the submission period.
  • As of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, 69,526 applicants had paid an earnest money deposit (EMD), and MHADA allowed online EMDs until 11:59 p.m. on May 29 with RTGS/NEFT accepted until banks closed that day.
  • MHADA will publish a provisional list of accepted applications at 3:00 p.m. on June 10, accept claims and objections until June 12, and issue a final approved list on June 16 with the computerised draw date to be announced later.
  • The lottery offers 2,640 units across many Mumbai neighbourhoods, about 1,762 (66%) of which are under construction, and prices span roughly ₹29 lakh for EWS units to ₹6.82 crore for HIG units in Tardeo.
  • MHADA lowered prices on 1,221 Vikhroli tenements by 7.5% and reclassified about 610 units between income categories, moves that helped boost demand and will shape who gets short‑term possession versus longer waits for under‑construction homes.
