NEA Rolls Out S$2,500 Grant to Ease Beverage Container Return Costs

The automatic payout through BCRS offsets early fees, enabling sticker reimbursement by March.

Overview

  • Each registered producer will receive a one-time grant of up to S$2,500, issued automatically via BCRS Ltd and valid until Sep 30, 2027, with an option to opt out.
  • BCRS will offset registration and producer fees at billing, while sticker expenses require reimbursement claims by email, with first payments targeted by March 2026.
  • More than 400 producers covering about 95% of the regulated market have registered under the Beverage Container Return Scheme.
  • The scheme introduces a refundable 10-cent deposit on most 150ml to 3L cans and bottles, with more than 1,000 return points slated to be fully operational by Apr 1, 2026.
  • Producers face S$500 one-time registration, S$5 per product, and per-container fees of 3.1 cents for aluminium and 3.7 cents for plastic, with accredited stickers from three local vendors and a refundable security fee if using international barcodes; some smaller firms still warn of price pressures.
