Overview
- Two-year-old Sunkara Gnaneswari disappeared from a palm oil plantation in Ch. Agraharam on June 6 and was later reportedly seen with the family dog by a villager who could not approach her.
- The family dog returned home without the child on June 9, fell ill and died after roaming surrounding orchards, and its body has been sent for post-mortem and other forensic testing.
- Police fitted the dog with a GPS on June 12 and officials say its tracked movements covered roughly 80 km, a lead that investigators are examining alongside CCTV and witness accounts.
- On June 14 a 30-member NDRF team from the Regional Response Centre joined SDRF, forest and police units in an operation involving more than 400 personnel, drones and focused searches of creeks, streams and forested areas.
- The district administration has offered a Rs 1 lakh reward for information and state leaders are directing the response as officials warn dense orchards and waterways complicate ground searches and increase reliance on specialist teams and forensic evidence.
