Overview
- The National Commission for Women issued the advisory on Friday, June 19, 2026, sending it to Chief Secretaries and DGPs and circulating it to District Magistrates, SSPs and Commissioners of Police to drive action from state capitals to districts.
- The NCW recommended mandatory annual POSH audits for every establishment with ten or more employees and said audit reports must include use of the central SHe-Box platform and be submitted to district authorities.
- States were told to set up dedicated POSH monitoring cells or digital compliance dashboards to track compliance and to notify a District Officer in every district as the nodal authority for implementation and grievance redressal.
- The advisory directs all government departments, PSUs, educational and health institutions and other establishments to form legally compliant Internal Committees with a woman presiding officer, an external expert and at least 50 percent women members, while strengthening Local Committees to cover unorganised and domestic workers.
- The NCW framed the move as shifting from paperwork to accountable local enforcement but the advisory is not law, so its real effect will depend on state notifications, resource allocation and district follow-up that could change how quickly women can access complaints, protection and remedies.
