NCAA Permanently Bars Adam Njie Jr. for Sharing Game Information With Bettors

The committee cited digital records and corroborated threats tied to indicted bettors as grounds to make Njie permanently ineligible.

Overview

  • On Thursday the Division I Committee on Infractions approved a negotiated resolution that declares former Iona guard Adam Njie Jr. permanently ineligible for NCAA competition.
  • Njie told a known bettor he would throw the first half of Iona’s Dec. 1, 2024 game against Rice and later said he would do the same for the Dec. 6, 2024 game against Sacred Heart, and he told investigators he did not carry out either plan.
  • Investigators say digital evidence confirmed Njie’s communications with the bettor and corroborated that the bettor threatened Njie with bodily harm after the Rice game.
  • The Mississippi Gaming Commission reported that one bettor placed three wagers totaling $15,500 on Rice to cover the first-half spread in the Dec. 1, 2024 game.
  • Njie cooperated with NCAA enforcement and maintains he did not alter his play, but the NCAA classed sharing insider information as a Level I violation and noted the bettors tied to the case were among individuals indicted by federal prosecutors in January 2026 as part of a wider college-basketball wagering probe.
