NBC Renews The Americas for Season 2

The move shows NBC betting on big-budget nature filmmaking to keep viewers engaged until a 2028 season through scheduled specials.

Overview

  • NBC announced the renewal on June 25, 2026, and said production on Season 2 is underway with Tom Hanks returning as narrator and a planned 2028 premiere.
  • The network will air two tie-in specials to bridge the gap: The Americas: A Wild 250th on July 2, 2026, and The Americas: Mother’s Day in 2027, with next-day streaming on Peacock for the July special.
  • Season 1 established the series as a hit for broadcast TV, reaching about 36 million viewers across platforms and ranking as the most-watched new alternative show of 2024–25.
  • The series remains a transatlantic collaboration produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit with Universal Television Alternative Studio and executive producers Mike Gunton and Holly Spearing.
  • NBC is re-running The Americas: Fun Fact Edition this summer, which has drawn more than 9 million viewers so far, as part of a strategy to sustain audience interest during the multi-year production cycle.
