Overview
- Capt. Douglas Whimpey was removed as commodore of the First Naval Construction Regiment on Jan. 23 for a stated “loss of confidence in his ability to command.”
- The relief was executed by Capt. Angel Santiago, commander of Naval Construction Group 1 in Port Hueneme, California.
- Capt. Steven Sherman assumed duties as commodore, and Whimpey was temporarily reassigned to the NCG-1 staff.
- The Navy said the leadership change has no impact on operations.
- 1 NCR oversees Seabee battalions 18, 22 and 25 from its Port Hueneme headquarters, and Whimpey is a Reserve Civil Engineering Corps officer.
