Overview
- Operation ICE CAMP Boarfish began on March 7 with USS Delaware (SSN 791) and USS Santa Fe (SSN 763) operating from a temporary base on a drifting ice floe in the Beaufort Sea.
- The camp serves as a command hub for a three-week series of under-ice navigation, sonar and communications tests alongside scientific observation.
- Participants include the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Air National Guard with partners from Australia, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Norway and Japan.
- The Navy’s Arctic Submarine Laboratory, a detachment of the Undersea Warfighting Development Center, is leading planning and execution.
- The operation is the Submarine Force’s 100th under‑ice evolution, with Royal Navy submariners reported embarked on USS Delaware after the boat surfaced through thick ice to open the event.
