Overview
- The Navy ran a prototype fit evaluation from Aug. 17–21, 2026 with nearly 80 female Sailors at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story and the Navy Exchange in Norfolk.
- Sailors tried on prototype slacks, shirts and jumper tops while researchers recorded body measurements and collected immediate fit and functionality feedback.
- The research team will use the data to decide pattern changes, to determine whether to formalize additional 'Charlie' and 'Delta' fit types, and to issue sizing recommendations.
- Several modernized female items have already reached the fleet, including Service Khaki slacks with back pockets and short- and long-sleeve Summer and Dress White overblouses at select NEX shops and online.
- The effort is part of the Navy’s five-year Size Modernization Program launched in 2024 to replace restrictive sizing, reduce costly alterations, improve comfort and readiness, and to inform future evaluation of male uniform sizing.
