National Guardsman Pleads Guilty in Killing of Fort Gordon Soldier

The guilty plea advances the Dec. 14, 2024 case toward federal sentencing, leaving the defendant facing 10 years to life in prison.

Overview

  • Natravien R. Landry, 27, pleaded guilty on Thursday, June 11, to second-degree murder and to using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence in the death of Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr.
  • Prosecutors say the shooting occurred on Dec. 14, 2024 when Landry entered his ex-girlfriend’s on-base apartment, found Stewart in an upstairs bedroom, and shot him once; Stewart was pronounced dead.
  • After the killing Landry fled the base, was stopped hours later on Interstate 85 by Meriwether County deputies, tried to discard a 9mm handgun, and investigators later tied that weapon to the fatal shot.
  • Landry admitted the shooting in a Mirandized interview and, under the plea, faces a federal sentence ranging from a minimum of 10 years up to life; a sentencing date has not been set.
  • The incident prompted a multi-hour lockdown at Fort Gordon, left two children present at the scene including Stewart’s 5-year-old son, and has renewed attention on domestic violence and its effects on military families.
