National Geographic Launches Six-Month Creator Cohort to Expand Social Reach

The pilot tests a pipeline for future collaborations by tapping creators' audiences on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

Overview

  • Nat Geo named eight inaugural creators: Maya Higa, Macaila Wagner, Ethan Penner, Maynard Okereke, Jordan Kahana, Tanya Badillo, Paige Tingey and Dr. Tenninger Kellenbarger.
  • The initiative focuses on platform-native storytelling across nature, science, history, travel and wildlife photography.
  • Participants gain access to Earth Month activations, James Cameron’s Secrets of the Bees, Lion programming, and travel opportunities with National Geographic Expeditions and National Geographic Journeys.
  • The program runs for six months, after which creators may be tapped for ongoing marketing or programming roles with Nat Geo.
  • Vice president of social media Aiman Ahmed is leading the effort, which executives describe as an investment in the next generation of nonfiction storytellers.
