Overview
- National Gas, the operator of Britain’s gas grid, said in a refreshed summer 2026 outlook that supplies should cover homes and businesses and allow some exports to mainland Europe.
- About 86% of summer supply is expected from the UK Continental Shelf and Norway, with roughly 5% from flexible storage and 9% from liquefied natural gas imports.
- UK gas futures have climbed from around 78 to about 120.7 pence per therm since late February as the Middle East conflict hit LNG sites and disrupted shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
- Demand is forecast to be close to summer 2025, with gas use in power generation down about 6% even as it still balances dips in wind and solar, and non-daily metered use by homes and businesses up about 2%.
- National Gas urged continued coordination by government, industry and regulators to manage risks from declining domestic production and greater reliance on imports.
