Nashua Man Killed After Jet Ski Collides With Pontoon Boat on Merrimack River

New Hampshire State Police reported preliminary findings that the rider was struck by the pontoon’s propeller with investigators continuing their work.

A collision on the Merrimack River threw a jet ski rider into the water and he was struck by a pontoon boat’s propeller, officials said.
The victim was identified as 31-year-old Erick Machado of Nashua, and he was pronounced dead after emergency responders attempted life-saving efforts.
Occupants of the pontoon boat called 911 and nearby riders helped bring Machado onto another boat and to shore before ambulances arrived.
Police gave the time of the crash as about 5:15 p.m. on Sunday and described their findings as preliminary while they continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence.
Investigators will review on-scene evidence and statements and the case may involve the medical examiner’s office because propeller strikes often cause severe limb trauma.
