Nashik Speeds Up Airport Upgrade, 66‑Km Ring Road for Simhastha Kumbh Preparations

State funding backs a March 2027 airport deadline to ease expected Kumbh crowds.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has broken ground on a new 18,250 sq m terminal at Nashik (Ozar) Airport to raise handling from about 300 to nearly 1,000 passengers per hour with 24 check‑in counters, aerobridges and an expanded apron.
  • Officials say the airport upgrade is fully state‑funded at an estimated Rs 572–640 crore with trials targeted by March 2027 ahead of peak 2027 footfall.
  • A 66.15‑km outer ring road around Nashik is in progress at a projected Rs 7,922 crore, with land acquisition by the state and civil works to be funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
  • Authorities report acquisition of about 386 hectares across 25 villages is under way, with ongoing talks with farmers and compensation to follow government norms.
  • The integrated plan also spans 300+ km of road upgrades, AI‑based crowd management, 17,000 mobile toilets and river rejuvenation for the 21‑month Simhastha (Oct 31, 2026–July 24, 2028), with attendance projections varying across reports.
