Overview
- Public-health officials linked three infant botulism cases in California, Pennsylvania and Washington to Nara Organics Whole Milk powdered formula after illnesses with onset between April and May 2026.
- The FDA recommended a recall on June 12 and Nara Organics issued a voluntary nationwide recall of all lots on June 13; the formula was sold at Target stores, Target.com and Nara.com from July 2025 through June 2026.
- All three infants were hospitalized and received the antitoxin BabyBIG with no deaths reported so far, and investigators say early recognition and treatment were critical to recovery.
- State and federal labs have collected and begun testing retained and returned cans with results expected in the coming weeks while officials advise caregivers to stop using the product, photograph lot information and preserve opened cans labeled 'DO NOT USE' for possible testing.
- The first civil suit was filed on June 17 against Nara Organics and Target and the incident, which follows a separate formula-linked outbreak last year, is likely to increase regulatory scrutiny of powdered‑formula manufacturing and safety controls.
