NAR Advances Governance Overhaul With Expertise-Based Committee Applications

The trade group says tying seats to skills will improve oversight.

Overview

  • The National Association of Realtors introduced a new 2027 committee application that starts with an Expertise Profile and is now available at nar.realtor/committee-selection.
  • The application shift follows a first phase of streamlining that dissolves several committees and forums now, with additional groups set to wind down later in 2026.
  • Groups named for closure include the Large, Medium and Small State Forums, the State Leadership Idea Exchange Council, the Reserves Investment Advisory Board, the Amicus Brief Advisory Board, the Leading Edge Advisory Board and the Leadership Identification and Development Committee.
  • NAR says the changes will cut overlap, reduce the number of appointments, and move staff and volunteer time to higher‑value work.
  • The steps come out of a Committee Excellence review that surveyed members and audited more than 95 groups, and leaders frame the overhaul as part of rebuilding trust after commission lawsuits.
