Namibia Finalises Squad as Windhoek Hosts FNB T20 Tri‑Series With South Africa and Zimbabwe

Organisers pitch the Windhoek tri-series as a preparatory competition for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

Overview

  • Cricket Namibia named a 16-player T20I squad on Monday with Gerhard Erasmus as captain and Michael van Lingen recalled after a two-year absence from T20 internationals.
  • Zimbabwe named a 15-player side led by Sikandar Raza but confirmed that pace bowlers Richard Ngarava and Tanaka Chivanga are unavailable because of a lower‑back injury and recent surgery respectively.
  • The FNB T20 Tri‑Series runs from 28 August to 6 September 2026 in Windhoek in a double round‑robin format where each team plays the others twice and the top two meet in a final on 6 September.
  • FNB is the title sponsor and the tri-series is immediately followed by a three‑match NamibiaSouth Africa ODI series from 9 to 13 September at the same venue.
  • Organisers say the competition will help selectors test combinations ahead of the 2027 World Cup co‑hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and serve as a precursor to a planned Africa T20 Cup intended to raise regional standards.
