Namco’s Armadillo Racing Arrives on Consoles for the First Time

The 1997 Japan‑only arcade racer is being recreated to preserve Namco’s System 22 era with arcade-accurate controls and a staged pricing plan.

Overview

  • Hamster Corporation will release Armadillo Racing on July 23 as Arcade Archives for Nintendo Switch and PS4 and as Arcade Archives 2 for Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • The launch copies original features while adding USB trackball support so players can approximate the arcade cabinet’s trackball controls on modern systems.
  • Arcade Archives editions cost $14.99 on Switch and PS4 while Arcade Archives 2 editions cost $16.99 on next-gen consoles and a $2.99 upgrade will be offered from the $14.99 version.
  • Arcade Archives 2 adds Time Attack Mode and Variable Refresh Rate support for closer fidelity, while all releases include Original, Hi Score and Caravan modes plus save states and rewind.
  • This release is the eighth System 22 or Super System 22 title Hamster has reissued with Bandai Namco’s Research Institute, a program aimed at preserving Namco’s early polygonal arcade history and exposing rare cabinet-only games to modern players.
