Overview

  • The National Legal Services Authority launched the E‑Prisons Early Release Processing Module in a virtual pan‑India rollout on Wednesday, May 27, to automate remission and premature release workflows.
  • The module, developed by the National Informatics Centre within the existing e‑Prisons platform, automatically identifies eligible prisoners before their eligibility date and initiates online processing of release proposals.
  • Key features include real‑time SMS and WhatsApp updates, colour‑coded grace‑period alerts, centralized monitoring dashboards and digital accountability markers designed to replace manual file movement.
  • The system was piloted at Central Jail, Agra and District Jail, Lucknow, and was launched in the presence of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justices Vikram Nath and J.K. Maheshwari, NALSA officials and NIC representatives.
