Overview
- Set at Shakhamuru Park, the memorial spans 6.80 acres and the first phase was delivered in six months by the Potti Sriramulu Memorial Trust at an estimated ₹150 crore using about 26 tonnes of bronze and 42 tonnes of iron.
- The statue’s height intentionally mirrors Sriramulu’s 58-day fast in 1952 that precipitated the formation of Andhra State and influenced the creation of linguistic states.
- Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, ministers including Nara Lokesh, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and BJP state president P. V. N. Madhav joined the ceremony.
- Statewide commemorations included police tributes and public garlandings, while a commemorative postal cover was released and members of Sriramulu’s family were felicitated.
- Officials framed the project as a milestone for developing Amaravati as the capital, calling it the city’s first major monumental sculpture, with the next phase to add a museum, photo gallery, auditorium and a skill development centre.
