Overview
- A 24-year-old woman filed a complaint in mid-June alleging a sustained campaign of drugging, sexual assault, recording, blackmail and extortion by a former acquaintance and his associates, and police registered an FIR at Sonegaon station.
- Two men identified as Ayyaz Taj Madare and Ameen/Amin Shaikh were arrested and remanded to police custody while a third accused, named in the FIR as Hazrat Maulana, is being hunted across state lines.
- The complaint alleges the first incident occurred during a February 2025 hotel meeting where the woman was given a sedative-laced drink, raped while unconscious and secretly filmed, with the recordings later used to extort roughly Rs 3.09 lakh to Rs 4 lakh from her.
- She also alleges that on May 31 she was taken to Kalmeshwar where a cleric performed rituals, forced her to say 'Qubool hai' and declared a nikah; police have sent teams to Madhya Pradesh to trace the cleric and verify the claim.
- Police have seized the widely shared video that shows the woman pleading 'Chhodo mujhe', sent digital evidence and phones for forensic analysis, invoked sections for rape, extortion, criminal intimidation and anti‑superstition laws, and say further arrests or charges are possible as the probe continues.
