Mysuru Opens Two-Day Objection Window on Plan to Fell 561 Trees for NHAI Works

Public input will shape the Forest Department’s recommendation under the state’s tree law.

Overview

  • Forest officials invited objections to NHAI’s request to cut 561 trees for a flyover and highway widening in Mysuru, with submissions accepted by email, post, or a complaint box.
  • Deputy Conservator of Forests K. Paramesh said the department will examine all objections and send its findings to the Karnataka government for a final decision.
  • For the Kempegowda Circle flyover, 350 trees are marked, including 256 inside Bannimantap Park, 19 near the Siddiquinagar–Fountain Circle stretch, 52 on the Outer Ring Road divider toward Hunsur, and 20 toward Bannur, with three sandalwood trees among them.
  • On National Highway 766, NHAI seeks to remove 15 trees near Nanjangud and 196 near T. Narasipur, with detailed clusters at Varuna Circle, between Duddagere and Puttegoudanahundi, and near M.C. Hundi.
  • Construction of the four-lane flyover is already visible with pillars rising along the Outer Ring Road, even as activists from Mysuru Grahakara Parishat urge authorities to explore alternatives and account for the environmental value of mature trees.
