Mysuru Launches Crackdown on Illegal Banners as MCC Begins Midnight Removal Drive

Officials frame the move as heritage protection under state permit rules with penalties.

Overview

  • Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy ordered immediate removal of unauthorised flex boards and banners and warned of legal action for non-compliance.
  • The Mysuru City Corporation began on-the-ground enforcement with a reported midnight operation clearing displays at Shaktinagar Outer Ring Road, Devegowda Circle and near Kukkarahalli Lake.
  • Prior permission from local bodies is now mandatory for any public banners or flexes, with organisers responsible for timely removal after the permitted period without damaging public property.
  • Violations can attract up to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to ₹1,000 under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, while Sections 133 and 136 of the Karnataka Municipalities Act empower removals.
  • MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said the drive is underway in earnest, with the effort linked to preserving Mysuru’s aesthetics and the city’s Swachh Survekshan aspirations.
