Mustangs Honor Three Fallen Teammates With Packed Memorial Game in Stavely

A safety review of the Stavely intersection is underway alongside an ongoing RCMP investigation.

Overview

  • JJ Wright and Cameron Casorso, both 18, and 17-year-old Caden Fine died Feb. 2 when their vehicle collided with a gravel-hauling semi at Highway 2 and 55th Avenue, the north entrance to Stavely.
  • RCMP continue to investigate and have indicated the crash is not being treated as criminal so far.
  • Hundreds attended Sunday’s memorial game between the Southern Alberta Mustangs and the Stavely Spurs Alumni, which the Mustangs won 9–6.
  • Proceeds from the benefit and other donations are supporting funeral costs, travel for teammates to services in Kamloops and Alabama, and team needs during grieving.
  • Teammates laid the players’ jerseys, gloves and helmets on the ice, and the fathers of Wright and Fine took part in the ceremonial puck drop after a moment of silence.
