Overview
- Police were called to a home in St John’s Chase, March, shortly after 11am on January 3, where the infant was found in a life-threatening condition.
- Atijus Elertaite died on January 8, and a post-mortem recorded a preliminary cause of death as a head injury, with further medical work ongoing.
- A 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man from March were first arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, then re-arrested on suspicion of murder, and have since been released on bail until April 22.
- The baby was initially treated at Peterborough City Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he died.
- Detectives appealed for information, asking the public to call 101 quoting incident 124 of January 3 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously, and urged people not to speculate on social media.
