Muntahar Ahmed Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Fatal Birmingham Bus Stop Attack

Police call the assault an unnecessary act of violence against ex-Army grandfather Allen Karem Chand.

Overview

  • Ahmed, of no fixed address, entered the guilty plea at Birmingham Crown Court and will be sentenced at a later hearing.
  • Investigators say he grabbed Mr Chand’s walking stick and pushed him off the kerb on Soho Road in Handsworth on January 14, 2025.
  • The 82-year-old suffered a fractured skull and a brain bleed and died in hospital five days later.
  • Officers arrested Ahmed two days after the assault when he returned to the scene, initially charging him with wounding before upgrading the charge after Mr Chand’s death.
  • West Midlands Police said there was no indication of self-defence, and Mr Chand’s family paid tribute to a loving ex-Army man.
