Munich Marks 30 Years of St. Patrick’s Day With Weekend Festival and Sunday Parade

Transit detours are in place as volunteers stage one of mainland Europe’s largest Irish festivals.

Overview

  • The parade runs from Münchner Freiheit via Leopoldstraße and Ludwigstraße to Odeonsplatz over roughly 2.5 kilometers.
  • Organisers expect about 1,400 participants in 70 groups, led by St. Patrick alongside a Grand Marshal and Parade Princess with bands, dancers and clubs.
  • MVG has rerouted multiple bus lines during the parade period of about 11:30 to 14:00 and advises using U‑Bahn alternatives such as U3/U6 and nearby stations.
  • The open‑air programme features music and dance across stages at the Feldherrnhalle and along Ludwigstraße on both Saturday and Sunday.
  • Founded in 1996 by pub owner Paul Daly and friends, the event is now run by the volunteer Munich Irish Network and typically draws tens of thousands of spectators.
