Mundelein Police Fatally Shoot Woman Reported Suicidal During Knife Confrontation

An outside task force has opened a review of the police shooting.

Overview

  • Officers responding to a crisis call Monday just before 6 p.m. went to a home on the 1100 block in Mundelein after a relative said a woman threatened self-harm and wanted police to kill her.
  • They found the woman seated on the back patio as they spoke with the caller, then she stood, yelled, and moved toward the rear sliding door holding two large knives.
  • An officer inside the home fired during the encounter, and the woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
  • One involved officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and the Lake County coroner has scheduled an autopsy.
  • The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is investigating the shooting and has not released the names of those involved or additional findings.
