Mumbai Suburban Rail Sets Night and Day Blocks for Dadar Signalling, Naigaon Footbridge

The timed blocks enable core safety upgrades at key Mumbai rail stations.

Overview

  • Western Railway is running coordinated night blocks for signalling at Dadar and footbridge girder launches at Naigaon, with work split across late-night windows to limit peak-hour disruption.
  • During these blocks, slow and fast suburban services are being swapped on key stretches, which forces trains to skip stations with short platforms such as Mahalaxmi, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Matunga Road and Mahim.
  • Several Western Railway mail and express trains face short terminations, late starts or brief delays, including Saurashtra Express and Saurashtra Mail trips that end at or start from Borivali instead of Dadar.
  • Central Railway will run a daytime mega block between Thane and Kalyan on the Main Line and suspend Harbour services between Panvel and Vashi for several hours, with long-distance trains routed via the 5th and 6th lines and special CSMTVashi locals to ease crowding.
  • Electronic interlocking at Dadar centralizes route setting through fail-safe logic and the Naigaon footbridge lifts span across tracks, so both jobs require full track blocks for short periods to protect crews and equipment.
