Mumbai Sets Friday Launch for Metro Lines 2B and 9, Tunnel Drive and BKC Pod Taxi

Officials frame the push as a bid to cut commute times across clogged corridors.

  • MMRDA will stage a four-part rollout Friday, opening short stretches of Metro Lines 2B and 9 while starting ThaneBorivali tunnelling and the BKC pod taxi groundbreaking.
  • Metro Line 2B’s first phase will run about 5.4 km between Diamond Garden in Chembur and Mandale in Mankhurd with five stations: Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd and Mandale.
  • Metro Line 9’s first phase will cover 4.5 km from Dahisar East to Kashigaon with stops at Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Mira Gaon and Kashigaon, linking directly into Line 7 for through travel to Andheri East.
  • Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee completed on-site checks this week, and officials say the inspected stretches meet safety norms and are ready for passengers.
  • The program also starts TBM excavation for the ThaneBorivali twin tunnel after a December machine lowering and conducts the BKC pod taxi bhoomipujan, with officials projecting faster trips and up to one lakh added riders on connected lines.
