Mumbai Schedules 18-Hour Water Cut on April 22–23 for Valve Installation

The upgrade targets smoother flow from the Bhandarwada, Fosberry, Golanjhi hill reservoirs.

Overview

  • The BMC will install two 1,500 mm butterfly valves near Sewri on Wednesday, triggering an 18-hour shutdown from 10 am Apr 22 to 4 am Apr 23.
  • The cut will hit south and central Mumbai, with complete shutdowns in parts of A, B, C, E and F South wards and low pressure at major hospitals such as KEM, Tata, JJ, Nair, Kasturba and Wadia.
  • Residents in affected areas are urged to store enough water in advance and to boil or filter drinking water for four to five days after supply returns.
  • A 5% supply reduction, which began Monday, runs through April 27 for maintenance on Water Tunnel No. 1 and No. 2.
  • Navi Mumbai faces a separate 12-hour halt Wednesday from 10 am to 10 pm for NMMC valve and pipeline works across Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli.
