Mumbai Police Oppose Anticipatory Bail for Two Metro Line 4 Contractor Executives

Police argue bail could hinder a probe into site safety.

Overview

  • Alpesh Patel and Ganesh Gholap of Milan Road Buildtech sought pre-arrest bail, which police opposed in sessions court on Saturday.
  • Police also opposed the anticipatory bail plea of project consultant T. Sai Suresh Kumar, with the matter listed to be heard next on February 25.
  • An FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and related offences remains in force, and five contractor employees have been arrested so far.
  • Of the three seeking anticipatory bail, only consultant T. Sai Suresh Kumar is named as an accused in the FIR that cites officials of Milan Road Buildtech and DB Hill LBG.
  • Preliminary findings state the precast parapet was installed on February 12 using a turnbuckle and was not fully concretised before the February 14 collapse that killed one person and injured three, with the victim’s family receiving Rs 39.5 lakh in compensation.
