Mumbai Police Arrest Jharkhand Cyber Cafe Owner in Fake BARC Scientist Probe

  • The Crime Intelligence Unit arrested Munazzir (Monazir) Khan, 34, in Jamshedpur for allegedly helping Akhtar Hussain Qutubuddin Ahmed forge credentials used to pose as a BARC scientist.
  • Police say they seized multiple fake passports, PAN and Aadhaar cards, driving licences and forged BARC IDs, along with 14 maps and purported nuclear-related data now under forensic verification.
  • Investigators report that Khan’s cyber cafe was used to generate and alter digital documents and that advanced VPN services were employed to conceal the fabrication trail.
  • Another alleged accomplice, identified as Mohammad Ilyas, remains absconding as officers conduct mobile-data extraction after recovering phones, pen drives and a laptop.
  • A case has been registered at Versova Police Station under BNS sections and the Passport Act, and a court has remanded the two arrested suspects to police custody until October 29.
