Mumbai Orders 10% Water Cut From Jan 27 to Feb 7 as Maintenance Begins

The work targets the pneumatic gate system at Pise that regulates Bhatsa supplies.

Overview

  • BMC confirms a 10% reduction across most island city and eastern suburbs from January 27 to February 7, with effects extending to parts of Thane and Bhiwandi.
  • TMC will implement phased 24-hour shutdowns over 12 days as inflows drop and pressure remains low, citing roughly a 20% supply reduction.
  • A separate 24-hour halt will affect parts of Mulund (West), Bhandup (West) and select Thane areas from 10 am January 27 to 10 am January 28 for pipeline works.
  • The pipeline project will shift 12 connections from a 2,400 mm Vaitarna main to a 2,750 mm Upper Vaitarna line and add an iron cover at Khindipada.
  • Civic authorities advise residents to store water in advance, conserve usage and boil or filter drinking water for a few days as a precaution.
