Mumbai Metro Line 5 Phase 1 Reaches 95% Completion, December 2026 Launch Target Set

The 12.2 km Kapurbawdi–Dhamankar Naka stretch is slated to proceed to trials and safety sign-off as one segment of a 24.9 km, ₹8,416 crore corridor.

Overview

  • MMRDA says the remaining civil work on Phase 1 will be wrapped up by September 2025 before technical trials and mandatory safety certification begin.
  • Phase 1 spans 12.20 km between Kapurbawdi and Dhamankar Naka with seven stations: Kapurbawdi, Balkum Naka, Kasheli, Kalher, Purna, Anjur Phata and Dhamankar Naka.
  • Passenger operations on the ThaneBhiwandi section are targeted to begin by December 2026 following successful trials and clearances.
  • The full ThaneBhiwandiKalyan Line 5 is planned at 24.9 km with 17 stations and an estimated cost of ₹8,416 crore, while construction on Phase 2 has not begun.
  • MMRDA also expects near-term openings on other corridors, with Line 4/4A’s Gaimukh–Cadbury Junction segment slated for April–May 2026 and Line 9’s DahisarKashigaon stretch expected soon.
