Mumbai Man Stable After Surgeons Remove Machete From Skull

  • Rohit Nagnath Pawar, 27, was struck in Mankhurd near Irfan Chicken Shop on Friday night around 10:30 pm after a prior dispute, leaving a curved koyta lodged in his head.
  • He reached Sion Hospital around 3 am Saturday after an initial stop at Govandi’s Shatabdi Hospital, and a video of him standing with the blade protruding soon spread online.
  • Scans showed the weapon had pierced about 1.5 inches into the left side of his brain in a non-eloquent area, and a team led by neurosurgeon Dr Batuk Diora removed it in emergency surgery.
  • Police have detained three minors and remanded them to a children’s home, registered an FIR under attempt to murder and arms provisions, and are reviewing CCTV footage.
  • Doctors say he is conscious and stable in the trauma ICU, and they warn he needs close follow-up for possible delayed problems such as speech or comprehension loss, weakness, or seizures.
