Mumbai Cyber Police Arrest POS Agents Accused of Supplying Over 700 SIMs and eSIMs for Scams

Police describe POS-enabled KYC misuse that funneled duplicate connections to cybercriminals.

Overview

  • Central Region Cyber Police arrested Mohammed Sultan Mohammed Hanif Ansari and Zeeshan Kamble for allegedly activating more than 100 duplicate SIM cards using fraudulent subscriber details.
  • The North Regional Cyber Cell detained Chembur POS agent Kamal Pukraj Kuldeep for allegedly supplying over 600 eSIMs created with customers’ Aadhaar and KYC documents.
  • Investigators say buyers received one connection while additional SIMs or eSIMs were covertly provisioned and sold to fraud networks, with duplicate cards in the Mumbai case priced at about Rs 500 each.
  • Police report the numbers were linked to scams nationwide, operated in roaming across Southeast Asia, and enabled WhatsApp and Telegram accounts flagged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
  • Ongoing probes include tracing connections through bank KYC records, and at least one identified customer told police he was unaware his identity had been reused.
