Overview
- The project, which held its foundation ceremony Tuesday with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, moves construction of the Bandra–Kurla Complex pod taxi from plans to execution.
- Phase I will build a 3.36 km elevated corridor between Kurla and Bandra East, with the full 8.85 km network planned to reach 22 air‑conditioned stations spaced about 200 metres apart.
- Driverless, battery pods carrying up to six people will run on a dedicated guideway at up to 40 km/h with headways as short as 15 seconds, stopping only at stations passengers select and managed from a central control room with a depot on RLDA land in Bandra East.
- MMRDA says the system will link to Mumbai Metro Line 3 at BKC and Line 2B at ITO and IL&FS, with a projected 1.09 lakh daily riders by 2031 and a proposed fare of about ₹21 per km based on 2022 estimates.
- The PPP places costs on the private operator, with reports citing a ₹1,016 crore project outlay and an agreement for Sai Green Mobility to pay MMRDA an annual fee plus a 21% revenue share, even as transport experts question fare affordability, safety and the lack of public consultation.
