Overview
- The civic body will reduce supply by about 5% from April 20–27 across 12 wards in the eastern suburbs and parts of south and central Mumbai.
- The work covers charging, flushing, chlorination, and dechlorination of AMT-1 and AMT-2, which move water from Amar Mahal to Wadala, Parel, and the Trombay reservoirs.
- Residents in affected areas may see low pressure during peak hours and are urged to store water in advance and use it carefully.
- The tunnel servicing comes after an 18-hour shutdown on April 16–17 to fit two 1,500 mm butterfly valves near Sewri as part of a staged upgrade program that has also included desilting.
- Mumbai’s piped supply relies on a few trunk tunnels and hill reservoirs, so brief work on these choke points can cause citywide dips that help prevent bigger breakdowns and steady pressure long term.
