Mumbai and Thane Police Intensify Manhunts After Separate Fatal Stabbings

A manhunt continues after two arrests in Juhu with a dozen suspects named in the Bhiwandi FIR.

Overview

  • The Juhu police have arrested two suspects, Parmeshwar and Kishan Devendra, in the Aug. 10 bus stop stabbing that officers attribute to a revenge plot, while a third suspect remains at large.
  • Officials say both arrested suspects had been externed from Mumbai months earlier and returned to settle an old enmity linked to an alleged killing by Krishna Devendra.
  • In Khardi village, Bhiwandi, multiple masked assailants wielding choppers attacked and killed BJP Yuva Morcha vice-president Prafful Tangdi and his cousin Tejas late on Aug. 11.
  • Bhiwandi Taluka police have registered an FIR naming up to twelve accused, detained several people for questioning and are analysing CCTV footage to identify the attackers.
  • Investigators in both cases are relying on CCTV evidence, witness testimonies, forensic tests and coordinated police teams as they pursue suspects.
