Mumbai and Pune Announce Short Water Shutdowns This Week for Upgrade Work
Officials frame the short cuts as urgent work to stabilize long‑term supply.
Overview
- South and central Mumbai will see an 18‑hour halt from 10 am on Thursday, April 16, to 4 am on Friday, April 17, with full cuts in A, B, C, E and F/South wards and low pressure nearby.
- Crews in Mumbai will install two 1,500 mm butterfly valves on the Sewri Tunnel–Bhandarwada Hill pipeline to improve flow from the Bhandarwada, Fosberry and Golanji Hill reservoirs.
- Pune will shut supply from 12 pm on Wednesday, April 15, to 12 pm on Thursday, April 16, for repairs across key sites including the Parvati purification centres, Rajiv Gandhi Pumping Station, Khadakwasla Jackwell and Bhama Askhed.
- Residents in both cities have been told to store water in advance, and some peripheral parts of Pune will not receive tanker deliveries during the shutdown.
- Water may return late and at low pressure on Friday as systems restart, and Mumbai officials advise boiling or filtering drinking water for several days after supply resumes; major Mumbai hospitals will operate with reduced pressure.
