Multiple Shooters Injure Five Near Virginia State University Dorms

Happening hours before the fall semester, the attack triggered a multiagency manhunt.

  • Officers responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street and found five people with gunshot wounds near the Quad Annexes at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15.
  • One victim remains in critical condition and four have non-life-threatening injuries, and at least one of the wounded was confirmed to be a VSU student who has since been released from the hospital.
  • Chesterfield County Police are leading the active investigation with help from VSU Police, the ATF, and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and have not announced any arrests.
  • The campus was placed on lockdown early Saturday and the lockdown was lifted later in the morning with a sustained heavy law-enforcement presence and warnings for the community to avoid the area.
