Overview
- A series of separate collisions across July 20–21 closed or restricted lanes on major routes and produced long queues across the network, with National Highways and local forces coordinating on-scene response and traffic management.
- Nottinghamshire Police and National Highways closed the A1 between Carlton-on-Trent and Tuxford after a serious collision involving an HGV and a motorcycle, with the road expected to remain shut for several hours for investigation.
- The A52 westbound near Stapleford was shut overnight after a multi-vehicle crash that drew Derbyshire Police, fire crews, ambulance crews and an air ambulance and was reopened after recovery and clean-up around 07:15 BST.
- The M25/A282 northbound at the Dartford Crossing saw an early morning motorcycle crash that left a man in his 60s with serious injuries and led to temporary closures and ongoing lane restrictions while recovery continued.
- Other incidents on the M4, M5, M3, M11, M62 and M6 prompted further lane closures, fuel-spillage treatment and barrier repairs, causing delays of up to 80–90 minutes in some places and leaving drivers advised to follow official diversions and live traffic updates.
