Overview
- A covert Thane operation on June 27 recovered four sets of the Maharashtra TET question paper and led to the first arrests after suspects tried to sell the papers, prompting the exam authority to postpone the June 28 test.
- The Special Investigation Team and Maharashtra STF have since widened the probe across states and, by July 2–3, arrested four more suspects bringing total custody to seven while continuing searches for the fugitive alleged mastermind, Bijendra Gupta.
- Teams raided a Hajipur cyber cafe late on July 1–2 and detained three people after seizing computers, hard disks and documents that investigators say link local operators to printing and distribution of leaked papers.
- Police have sent seized devices and paper copies for forensic examination and are tracing layered bank transfers, call records and app messages to map how the racket bought, printed and moved papers across Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu, Delhi and Maharashtra.
- Nearly 4.3–6 lakh candidates were affected by the postponement and the Maharashtra State Council of Examination has not set a new date while officials say candidates will not need to re‑register or pay again when the test is rescheduled.
