Overview
- Hart County 911 received a report just before 6 p.m. Saturday of a possible drowning near the Mega Ramp at the end of Ridge Road on Lake Hartwell.
- Deputies from the Hart County Sheriff’s Office responded and were joined by Hart County EMS, Hart County EMA, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Elbert County EMA.
- Crews searched Saturday evening with sonar-equipped boats, resumed operations Sunday morning, and continued into Monday using boat-mounted sonar and underwater drones.
- The sheriff’s office has not publicly released an identity but CBS reported the missing man as 73-year-old David Seymour and said he entered the water to retrieve an item and could not reboard his vessel.
- Authorities asked boaters to keep clear of emergency vessels and flashing lights so crews can operate safely and requested that the community keep the victim’s family and first responders in their thoughts as the search continues.
