Mugler Launches Aurora and Lua Handbag Campaign Starring Nude Bodybuilder

The black-and-white images recast sculpted physical strength as a lens for Miguel Castro Freitas’s new leather-goods chapter.

Overview

  • Mugler released the campaign this week and made the Aurora and Lua available at select stores including Dover Street Market and on mugler.com with Italian manufacture and published prices.
  • The campaign, shot by Chris Lensz, features French bodybuilder Tatiana Horslaville posing nude in black-and-white photos that the house said reference classical portraiture and late-19th-century sculpture studies.
  • The Aurora was named by creative director Miguel Castro Freitas for his mother and reworks a 2002 Mugler silhouette, while the crescent-shaped Lua is offered in standard and larger 'Lua City' sizes.
  • Both bags are produced in Italy and offered in black, taupe and python-embossed or python-effect leathers that align with Mugler’s stated policy against real fur and exotic skins.
  • Horslaville framed the collaboration as rooted in the discipline of bodybuilding and the campaign deepens Freitas’s deliberate turn to Mugler’s glamazon archive as he builds the brand’s leather-goods identity.
