Overview
- Mayor Renzo Reggiardo said Tuesday the Lima–Chosica line is ready to start this week if the Transport Ministry issues an operating authorization.
- The Transport Ministry said passenger service requires stations, fare collection, automatic signaling, automated barriers at level crossings, and a segregated right-of-way to keep people and vehicles off the tracks.
- The ministry added that ProInversión will be delegated authority to negotiate a contract modification with Ferrovías Central Andina, which holds the Central Railway concession that covers the Lima–Chosica line.
- The ministry clarified that a recent municipal request only covered moving one locomotive and five passenger cars between Chosica and Monserrate for a round trip, which does not authorize opening the service to the public.
- City officials plan a phased start with an express run between Parque de la Muralla and Chosica, then add up to 14 stops including Huaycán as infrastructure comes online.
