MT-07 Breakthrough Completes Three Mountain Tunnels on MumbaiAhmedabad Bullet Train

The Ambesari excavation ties together the VapiBoisar mountain section and signals faster progress on one of the corridor’s most technically difficult stretches.

Overview

  • NHSRCL announced on Tuesday that engineers finished the MT-07 breakthrough at Ambesari village in Palghar, closing the 417-metre tunnel that is 14–14.4 metres wide.
  • The MT-07 excavation was carried out from both ends using controlled drilling-and-blasting and finished the three mountain tunnels between Vapi and Boisar.
  • Project teams used real-time geotechnical monitoring—Surface Settlement Points, 3D targets, strain gauges and seismographs—and safety measures such as ventilation and controlled access during work.
  • The VapiBoisar tunnels pass through a dense industrial belt, so their completion secures a critical stretch of the 508 km corridor that is being built with Japanese Shinkansen technology.
  • Officials say Gujarat showed about 68.2% physical progress and Maharashtra about 40.7% as of March 2026, the SuratBilimora section is targeted for August 15, 2027, and the full corridor is scheduled for December 2029.
